Book-It Repertory Theatre

Book-It Repertory Theatre

Book-It Repertory Theatre was founded in 1990 by a group of theatre artists who love to read and are passionate about literacy. Recognizing the immense wealth of story, character and language that exists in classic and contemporary literature, these artists wanted to create opportunities for audiences and fellow artists to experience theater through imaginative stagings of written narrative. By creating theater exclusively from literature, Book-It strives to inspire the love of reading through a live, communal experience.

Winner of the 2010 Mayor's Arts Award, Book-It continues to adapt literature for the theater. The organization has had over 60 world-premiere adaptations of full-length novels to its credit - many of which have gone on to subsequent productions all over the country. Some of their productions include adaptations of such beloved novels as A Confederacy of Dunces, Emma, Moby-Dick, Snow Falling on Cedars and Don Quixote. Their dedication continues - transforming great literature into great theater through simple and sensitive productions inspiring audiences to read.
